Street Culture // Thesis Multi Logo Sweater

  Thesis Grey Multi logo Sweater was part of the “retro winter” range that dropped at the beginning of the season. There have been many talks around this garment, but just to break down the definition of Street Culture. According to Urban Dictionary, street culture thrives in urban centres such as New York, Barcelona, Berlin, London & Sydney. These are the places street Culture is born and from there it spreads. It is modern, always pushing the limits of any set ideas whether thats fashion, art, design, music or sport. It is the creative faces in the city.  Now to pull this definition closer to home. Again Thesis has a unique standing in Soweto and with that Thesis is already pushing the boundaries by being the main supplier to Sowetans of “street wear”. The talks around this garment have mainly been about the replica of the Tommy Hilfiger logo. Thesis uses this logo as its own, “define yourself. To a normal person their first thoughts would be ”how ironic define yourself”. Granted but this is what many don’t understand about street culture. That it has nothing to do with being “original” because there is nothing that is original anymore. If you copy something you do it in a way that you end up owning it. Just to drift away for a bit remember Aaliya x At your best? The original is by the Isely Brothers. But we all dont remember that because Aaliya owned that song! Back to the sweater. The logos on the sweater and the colour scheme, Yes it has been inspired by the Tommy Hilfiger logo. But if you look closer to this, Thesis is owning the logo and the colours but relating it to the theme of the winter range and appreciating the logo. Street wear brands like @onlynyc & stussy flip brands& no one doesn’t think of fake or stealing. The now famous Phir Mapetla tee was a flip from the 60’s tee from The BEATLES. In as much as you can cry, street culture at heart is about logo flipping. Whislt we acknowledge your comments, this is ode to the fact that Tommy Hilfiger once said that he doesn’t make clothes for black people...We do it for our people”
